Amaran Tharyn
Scholar / Hemocraft Healer

The Nocthyris Who Walked Into the Sun
Nocthyris
Blood Moon Bastion, Tenebralis
22
Scholar / Hemocraft Healer
Appearance
Lean, quiet, scholarly bearing. Pale ashen gray skin with faint crimson veins visible at the temples, throat, and backs of the hands — pulsing when Hemocraft is active. Deep crimson eyes, still bright and clear (low Blood Debt). Long pointed ears, tapered and elven-shaped. Dark hair, slightly unkempt. Faint scars on palms and wrists from Hemocraft training, concealed by dark leather gauntlets embossed with crimson moon emblems. Wears a dark brown-green traveling coat over Bastion-black garments. Carries a scholar's belt loaded with books, scrolls, maps, and a white quill. His most important possession is a carved wooden Verdani mask — a Day-of-the-Dead skull with living leaves and colorful foliage growing from it, beaded with pearls and hanging with small dreamcatcher-like charms. The portrait captures his first dawn at Port of Sealune — arrived by night from Tenebralis, he takes the mask off to feel sunlight on his face for the first time in his life. Even though he knows his race is not safe outside the Bastion.
Abilities
- ◆Healing Rites — stabilizes wounds mundane medicine cannot close, at the cost of his own lifespan
- ◆Blood Arts — shapes own blood into defensive constructs, shields, and diagnostic instruments
- ◆Binding Rites — blood-based magical contracts and seals
- ◆Hemocraft discipline — trained at Blood Moon Bastion, specializing in healing over combat
- ◆Scholarly knowledge — extensive study of Astrylis geography, history, and ancient civilizations from the Bastion's Library of Veins
Costs & Stakes
Every use of Hemocraft costs years from Amaran's lifespan. Each healing he performs for his companions shortens the life he just chose to live. His eyes will dull from bright crimson to rust as the Blood Debt accumulates. He left a dying race — possibly 100-200 individuals remain — and his departure reduced that count. The Bastion may believe he was killed by the beast that attacked during the Blue Comet. If they learn he's alive and carrying secret archive knowledge about ancient Beast God fossil sites, his disappearance becomes a political crisis.
“Robert.”
Tome I → Tome II Arc
Amaran does not appear in Tome I. His origin occurs in the year before Thomas's arrival: a Blood Moon Gathering where he meets Sylra and receives the mask and notebook that will change his life. During the Blue Comet's passage, a maddened beast breaches Blood Moon Bastion's walls, and Amaran escapes through the chaos. A pirate girl from Piratea smuggles him out of Tenebralis. He arrives at Port of Sealune, introduces himself as 'Robert,' and enters a world that has never seen a Nocthyris walking in sunlight. In Tome II he reaches Mystaris, drawn by a Blood Moon alignment, where he is protected by Queen Xanthea and eventually crosses paths with Thomas and the companions.
