Pirate / Smuggler / Explorer
Appearance
Sun-darkened olive skin with freckles across the nose and cheekbones. Golden blonde hair, sun-bleached at the ends, pulled back in a loose practical braid. One bright green eye — sharp, quick, always assessing. The other eye covered by a worn leather eye patch she never explains. Gold earring in the left ear marking her first solo voyage. Athletic, compact build with climber's arms and a sailor's rolling gait. Wears a weathered dark brown leather coat with a reinforced armored shoulder pad on the left — Rouge's perch. Wide belt with tool pouches and a scorched scabbard holding a dwarven-forged Stoneheart blade that ignites with flame. On her shoulder: Rouge, a large red-and-gold parrot with metallic golden feathers capable of deflecting sword strikes and arrows.
Abilities
- ◆Expert swordsmanship — fast, low, unpredictable; trained in Piratea tradition, optimized for ship decks and unstable surfaces
- ◆Dwarven flame-sword — Stoneheart-forged blade that ignites along the edge when she channels fire through it
- ◆Fire manipulation (minor) — blade ignition, thermal push, brief flame shield, casual fire-starting
- ◆Master navigator — reads wind, tide, and the Twin Moons; knows smuggling routes not on any official chart
- ◆Rouge (combat parrot) — golden armored feathers deflect blades and arrows; scouts, fights, and coordinates with Izabelle as a combat pair
Costs & Stakes
Izabelle's fire ability is minor and exhausting if overused — sustained flame drains her physically. Her smuggling reputation means she is known to authorities in several ports, and the line between 'useful independent courier' and 'wanted criminal' shifts depending on which government is asking. Her family is split between the legitimate Dubois traders of Port of Sealune and the pirate Dubois of Piratea — a tension that could force her to choose sides. And she has given passage to a Nocthyris fugitive, which means the Duskborn, the Bastion, and possibly the Sacred Light may eventually come looking for answers.
“I was wondering when one of you would actually do it.”
Tome I → Tome II Arc
Izabelle does not appear in Tome I. She enters the story during the Blood Moon Gathering, approximately one year before Thomas's arrival, when she travels near Blood Moon Bastion as part of a Piratea envoy. Three months later, after the Blue Comet beast attack, she finds Amaran Tharyn at a hidden cove on the Tenebralis coast and smuggles him out of the continent. She takes him to Port of Sealune, introduces him to her family, and gives him his first foothold in the wider world. In Tome II she becomes part of the expanding cast, bringing the pirate perspective into a story dominated by kingdoms and ancient orders.
