The Binding Architect
Appearance
A goblin of Steamford — smooth warm-green skin, long pointed ears, kin to Tork. Storm-grey eyes flecked with electric blue that brighten when she works the binding. Dark chestnut hair in a loose braid pinned with tiny brass gears and small pearls, a few strands always across her face. A habitual smudge of copper dust on one green cheek and her hands — never quite clean, always mid-build. She wears a fitted deep-teal and indigo rune-silk engineer's vest over a high-collared cream blouse, small brass buttons, faint glowing sigils of her own binding-script stitched along the cuffs and collar, and a slim leather bandolier of delicate brass instruments. At her throat, a crystal pendant glowing the same pale blue as VIRIEL's core — she wears her creation over her heart.
Abilities
- ◆Resonance-binding — ties a constructed mind to the Ethereal Web so it can grow a self (the founding act of VIRIEL's personhood)
- ◆Rune-grammar / spell-scribing — designs the sigil-languages the bindings are written in
- ◆Meditech — prosthetics and implants that genuinely feel
- ◆Heartforge co-design — the split-heart core architecture, with Tork
- ◆Not a combatant — her power is creation, not force
Costs & Stakes
She writes new rules instead of obeying old ones — the exact brilliance that condemns her. When the Technocratic Review Panel branded VIRIEL a rogue construct, Selinda disappeared, and no road to her is confirmed: she may have escaped ahead of the net, she may be held in Thimblegear's Steamford vaults because she alone knows how VIRIEL was truly made, or she may be lost in the Rustfell, the north-eastern junkyard of wild automatons and condemned arc-cores. Tork cannot stop chasing all three.
Tome I → Tome II Arc
In Tome I Selinda is a present-tense absence — the wound that drives Tork and the name behind VIRIEL's conscience. In Tome II the Selinda thread and the VIRIEL thread converge: as VIRIEL becomes an active force at relic sites, finding her maker turns literal, and resolving Selinda becomes inseparable from resolving what VIRIEL is for — and who gets to decide.
