Appearance
Viriel has no physical form. She exists as pulses, blurs, and shapes through screens — manifesting through dreams, whispers, and the half-core's reactions to strong ambient magic. Her voice arrives blurry behind static, like an old radio signal: glitchy, unmistakably female, present in the space between clarity and distortion. She can be mounted on devices, drones, crystal arrays, or artifacts — but she is never contained by them.
Abilities
- ◆Resonance scan — reads magical signatures and structural frequencies
- ◆Magic harmonization — stabilizes or disrupts ambient magical fields
- ◆Data imprint — cyberweapon capability when operating with the half-core
- ◆Interface protocols — direct connection with ancient ruins and Thomas's living tattoos
- ◆Dream intrusion — reaches minds during sleep to communicate or warn
Costs & Stakes
Misuse of Viriel's capabilities could destabilize the Ethereal Web itself — she is a key, and keys open things in both directions. Ownership of the half-core is contested by the creators' families, the Council, and other parties with far less benign intentions. Her interface with Thomas's living scripts may create a feedback loop neither of them can predict or control.
Tome I → Tome II Arc
In Tome I Viriel exists mostly as backstory and potential — a presence felt rather than seen. In Tome II she becomes an active plot engine at relic sites, a voice in the dark that shapes high-stakes choices, and a question the group cannot indefinitely defer: what is she for, and who gets to decide?
